It is which phone you own.
iPhone and Android put the strongest free control in different places. Pick the correct path, then make sure you are not the only person holding the off switch.
A phone-wide filter is the base. A passcode or consequence is what keeps it there.
Choose your phone

How to block porn on your phone, not one browser
A Chrome or Safari extension protects one doorway. Install another browser and that doorway moves.
Screen Time on iPhone and Private DNS on Android sit above the browser (DNS is the layer that turns a web address into a server, underneath the browser and the apps). That means a normal Incognito or Private tab still has to pass through the same filter.
SafeSearch is worth enabling too, but it only cleans explicit results from supported search engines. A direct website address never asks SafeSearch for permission.
Close the routes the filter misses
- Delete saved material. A web filter cannot block a file already stored on the phone.
- Remove the gateway apps. If one social app reliably starts the sequence, remove the app instead of hoping its sensitive-content setting holds.
- Restrict new installs. Stop a second browser, VPN (an app that routes your traffic through another server) or private app from appearing in the same bad minute.
- Move the phone at night. Charge it outside the bedroom or bathroom where the pattern usually happens.
- Test three routes. Try a direct adult domain, private browsing and mobile data. A filter you did not test is only a setting.
That kind of app can also replace the route used by a DNS filter. If you keep one for work, test it before trusting the setup.
The off switch is the real problem
If you know every password, you can undo every setting.
On iPhone, let someone else create and keep the Screen Time passcode. On Android, use a supervised account or let someone else control an app lock around Settings and the Play Store.
Do not use a random password you can never recover. Phones need to be updated, repaired, sold and reset. Keep recovery possible, but outside the five-minute window where the old pattern wins.
If involving another person is not an option, write one exact rule before tonight: disabling the filter, installing a VPN or adding another browser triggers the consequence you chose.

Use Wi-Fi as a second layer
A porn filter on your Wi-Fi covers every phone, tablet and computer at home. It also puts one control outside the device in your hand.

Can I block porn permanently on my phone?
Not if “permanently” means impossible for the owner to undo. You can make removal slow, visible or dependent on another person. That is enough to stop many impulsive visits.
Will a phone blocker work on mobile data?
Android Private DNS follows the phone onto mobile data. Apple's Screen Time restriction also stays on the iPhone away from home. A router-only filter does not.
Does Incognito mode bypass the block?
Not when the filter lives at the device or DNS layer. Incognito changes what the browser saves; it does not normally change how the phone reaches a website.
