What removing the DNS profile does

• Stops DNS-level blocking immediately on the device you remove it from. Browsing returns to normal for that device.
• Does not touch your X Reset account or your data. Reset history, streak, and settings stay intact. To remove everything, delete your account from Account.
• Does not stop the relapse fee. Charges still apply if you log a relapse manually or one is recorded from another device that still has the DNS profile. To stop billing, see Cancel the relapse fee below.

You can reinstall the profile later from your account if you change your mind.

iPhone & iPad (iOS / iPadOS)

1. Open Settings.
2. Tap General.
3. Tap VPN, DNS & Device Management. On older iOS this is labelled Profiles & Device Management or just Profiles.
4. Under Configuration Profile, tap X Reset.
5. Tap Remove Profile.
6. Enter your device passcode if asked, then confirm.

If you do not see a Profiles section at all, the profile is already removed.

Mac (macOS)

1. Open the Apple menu → System Settings. On macOS Monterey and earlier this is System Preferences.
2. Click Privacy & Security in the sidebar. On older macOS, look for a Profiles pane in the main grid instead.
3. Scroll to the bottom and click Profiles. If this section is missing, the profile is not installed.
4. Select the X Reset profile from the list.
5. Click the − (minus) button below the list.
6. Confirm and enter your administrator password if prompted.

Android

The exact path depends on your manufacturer. Most current Android versions expose DNS under Private DNS.

Pixel and stock Android (Android 9+)

1. Open Settings.
2. Tap Network & internet.
3. Tap Private DNS.
4. Select Off, or Automatic to let your network choose.

Samsung Galaxy

1. Open Settings.
2. Tap Connections → More connection settings.
3. Tap Private DNS.
4. Select Off or Automatic.

Other manufacturers

Open Settings and search for Private DNS. The control will be one or two screens deep under Network or Connections.

Windows (10 and 11)

1. Open Settings.
2. Click Network & internet.
3. Click your active connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
4. Open Hardware properties.
5. Next to DNS server assignment, click Edit.
6. Switch to Automatic (DHCP), then click Save. This restores your provider's default DNS.

If you set DNS at the adapter level (Network Connections → adapter → Properties → IPv4), revert it there to Obtain DNS server address automatically.

Cancel the relapse fee

Removing the DNS profile does not stop billing. To stop the relapse fee:

1. Log in at xreset.org.
2. Go to Account.
3. Cancel the relapse fee or remove your payment method.
