How to Block Sensitive Content on X: Feed and Search
Change both controls and verify them without opening explicit posts.
You should not have to open unwanted images to find the setting that hides them.
Here's how to block sensitive content on X, formerly Twitter: adjust media display and search filtering separately. Start in a browser at x.com.
How to block sensitive content on X's feed
Sign in to the account you use, then follow this path:1
- Open More, then Settings and privacy.
- Choose Privacy and safety, then Content you see.
- Uncheck Display media that may contain sensitive content.
X saves this setting automatically. If you cannot find it in the iPhone app, X's help page directs iOS users to its website.
This changes how labeled media appears. It does not remove that content from the platform or make warnings impossible to open.
Turn on the separate search filter
Run an ordinary search, such as “gardening.” On the results page, open the three-dot menu and choose Search settings.2
Enable Hide sensitive content. Keep Remove blocked and muted accounts enabled if you also want those accounts excluded.
X says these search preferences apply on the web and in its Android and iOS apps. Changes can take several minutes.
Check the settings, not explicit posts
Revisit both controls to confirm they stayed saved. If you switch accounts, check the settings on that account too.
Unfollow or block accounts that repeatedly show content you want to avoid. Report media you believe needs a sensitive-content label.
X reviews reports; submitting one does not automatically hide or remove the post. Some unwanted content may not meet its warning threshold.
If you keep opening warnings anyway, take a break from the app. Our urge guide covers what to do next.
