How to Block Yourself From Porn
A filter creates friction. A delay and consequence make it survive the urge.
If you can remove your porn blocker in 30 seconds, you have not blocked yourself. You have built a speed bump.
A useful self-blocking setup needs three layers: a filter, a delay, and a consequence.
No single app can make access impossible while you still own the device and every recovery key. The goal is to make the calm decision survive long enough for the urge to pass.
1. Filter every real route
Put a porn filter on each phone and computer you actually use. Add network-level DNS filtering at home. Turn on search and platform filters where they help.
Then test private browsing, another browser, mobile data, a VPN, and any old device nearby. Our complete porn-blocking guide shows why coverage needs more than one layer.
A filter is still valuable even when it is imperfect. It interrupts the automatic first click and gives you a decision point.
2. Delay the off switch
Do not keep the removal path beside the urge.
A trusted person can hold the restriction code. If you are doing this privately, use a long random password stored somewhere deliberately slow to reach, or put the vulnerable device in a timed lockbox during your danger hours.
Be honest about the limit: because you own the system, you can eventually undo it. Delay is still useful. Self-control research suggests that changing the situation early can work better than waiting to fight a fully developed impulse.
3. Add a consequence you chose
Install X Reset beside the blocker.
X Reset uses a DNS profile on each device to detect visits to known adult sites. It does not block them. You choose a pact charge from $1 to $5. A clean day costs $0. A detected relapse is charged once for that day, not once per page.
The blocker creates friction. The delayed password protects that friction. X Reset makes bypassing both stop feeling free.
Test it before tonight
Try the routes you normally use. Confirm the filter catches them. Confirm the password is not saved. Confirm X Reset is active on every device.
Then write one exit: “If I start looking for a bypass, I will leave the device, cross the doorway, and wait ten minutes.”
You are not trying to become unable to choose. You are making the choice you already made harder to erase.
