Best Porn Blockers in 2026: Choose the Lock, Not the Logo

The feature list matters less than coverage, private mode, and who controls the off switch.

The best porn blocker is not the app with the longest feature list.

It is the one that covers the places where you actually watch, keeps working in private browsing, and puts the off switch somewhere you cannot reach in ten seconds.

Choose the lock before you choose the logo.

Best for partner accountability: Covenant EyesScreen monitoring, activity alerts, website filtering, and a trusted ally across major platforms.
Best for filtering mixed feeds: CanopyAI filtering for explicit images, video, and text without blocking every mixed-content site.
Best free network filter: CleanBrowsingOne DNS setting can cover every browser on a device or every device on home Wi-Fi.
Best Android-only option: Bulldog BlockerOn-device screen scanning plus PIN, delay, and remote-permission locks.
Best free iPhone option: Screen TimeAlready installed, effective for web filtering, and much stronger when someone else holds the passcode.

1. Covenant Eyes: best when another person can hold the key

Covenant Eyes combines blocking with screen monitoring. Its Victory Shield works on Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS; reports concerning activity to an ally; and can alert that person if the software is removed.1

The advantage is not a magical filter. It is visible removal. You can give another person administrator, uninstall, and filter permissions instead of keeping every key yourself.

Choose it if you have a reliable partner and accept screen monitoring. Skip it if sharing device activity creates more anxiety than accountability.

2. Canopy: best for explicit content inside normal sites

DNS filters understand domains. They cannot distinguish a normal Instagram post from an explicit one because both come from Instagram. Canopy uses image, video, and text filtering across websites, social media, and AI chatbots on the major operating systems.2

That makes it the strongest fit when mixed feeds are the hole in your setup. The tradeoff is cost, broader device access, and possible false positives. At review time, the Solo annual plan was listed at $8.33 per month for one device.

3. CleanBrowsing: best free layer for a whole network

CleanBrowsing's free Family Filter blocks adult domains, proxy and VPN domains, mixed-content sites such as Reddit, and forces SafeSearch. You can set it on one device or on the router for the whole home.3

It is private, free, and browser-independent. Incognito does not normally matter because the filter sits below the browser.

Its weakness is control. Mobile data leaves the home router, an administrator can replace the DNS, and new bypasses appear. Use it as the floor, not the entire house.

4. Bulldog Blocker: best focused Android option

Bulldog scans the Android screen on the device, including content inside mixed apps. It can lock settings with a PIN, a delay, or permission from a friend. Google Play currently lists more than 500,000 downloads and a 4.3 rating.4

This is a useful Android-specific answer, not a universal one. Screen scanning needs powerful Accessibility and Device Administrator permissions. Test it against your normal banking, work, video, and messaging apps before locking it down.

5. Apple Screen Time: best free iPhone starting point

Screen Time can limit adult websites, restrict app installation and deletion, and prevent account or cellular-setting changes. Apple documents these controls as parental features, but the same barrier can support an adult's self-chosen setup.5

The setup fails when you know the passcode and can recover it instantly. Let someone else set the code, then test necessary apps before giving up the key.

The four tests every blocker should pass

Do not buy until you can answer these:
  • Coverage: Does it cover every device and browser you use?
  • Mixed content: Does it filter feeds, or must it block the whole app?
  • Private mode: Does it still work in incognito and inside apps?
  • Removal: Who can disable it, uninstall it, change DNS, or install a VPN?

No honest blocker can promise that an adult who owns the device will never find a route around it. The practical goal is different: remove the fast path and make bypass slow, visible, or costly.

If you keep disabling every blocker, add a consequence layer. X Reset does not pretend to be an unbreakable filter. Its DNS detects porn-site visits and applies a self-chosen pact charge once for that relapse day. Nobody receives your browsing report.

For free setups by device, use our guides for iPhone, Android, and Windows.

The answer

Choose Covenant Eyes if a trusted person can participate. Choose Canopy when explicit material inside mixed feeds is the problem. Choose CleanBrowsing as a free network layer, Bulldog for focused Android protection, or Screen Time as the iPhone starting point.

Then close the off switch. A blocker you control is friction. A blocker whose removal has a witness, delay, or consequence becomes a commitment.
