Detoxify App Review: What Panic Mode Actually Does

It can lock the whole phone until a timer ends. You still have to press the button before the urge wins.

This Detoxify app review finds a capable Android-first porn blocker with unusually direct urge tools. Its Panic Mode is less magical than the name suggests: you press it, choose a duration, and lose normal phone access until the timer ends.

Verdict: Detoxify is worth testing if Android is your main risk device and you want filtering, app locks, PIN protection, and a timed lockout in one subscription.

It is not an automatic urge detector. Panic Mode only helps when you still choose to activate it before opening porn.

What does Detoxify Panic Mode actually do?

Panic Mode locks you out of the phone for a duration you select. The Android listing also mentions ambient nature sounds. The useful mechanism is forced distance from the device: no browsing, searching, or switching to another risky app while the lock is active.

That can outlast the sharpest part of an urge. But it has two limits. First, you must notice the urge and press the button while choice is still available. Second, a whole-device lock removes useful phone tools too. Set a short test duration before trusting it during a high-risk moment.

This is stronger than motivational text, but it does not identify the trigger, contact a person, or teach a response you can use without the phone.

How the blocking works

Detoxify offers Normal, Extreme, and Ultra Extreme filtering. Higher modes add proxy sites, Reddit, enforced YouTube Restricted Mode, and selected social platforms. You can also blacklist apps and domains, enforce SafeSearch, and protect changes with another person's four-digit PIN or a randomized PIN.

On Android, website filtering uses a VPN service while app detection uses Accessibility Services. The listing says Accessibility reads which app is open so Detoxify can compare it with your blacklist. A system-alert permission displays the app lock.

Those broad permissions are functional, not automatically suspicious, but they deserve review. Google Play says the app may collect personal information, app activity, and two other data categories; it also says data is encrypted in transit, deletion can be requested, and no data is shared with third parties. That is more precise than the product's simple “does not log any data” claim.

Devices and reliability

The official Android listing advertises Android, Windows, and Mac under one account. It does not list iPhone support. Desktop behavior may differ from Android, so test each device rather than assuming identical controls.

Detoxify warns that some ISPs can interfere with network filtering and some Android manufacturers stop Accessibility in the background. Its BURROW option encrypts DNS traffic to address ISP interference. Battery optimization may need adjustment if the VPN disconnects.

Detoxify price

There is no permanent free tier. Google Play currently states $5.50 per month after a three-day trial. The official FAQ still shows $5 monthly or $50 yearly. Because these first-party pages disagree, confirm the price and renewal terms shown inside your checkout.

Uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription. The FAQ directs users to cancel through the account portal.

Is Detoxify worth it?

Yes, if you use Android and will configure strict PIN protection before an urge. Probably not, if you need iPhone coverage, a free plan, or recovery support that acts without you pressing Panic Mode.
