How to Block Porn on a Computer: Windows, Mac, Chromebook
A browser extension is easy to add. The real block belongs outside the browser.

It is also the fastest block to remove.
The stronger setup lives outside the browser: on the operating system, the computer's network connection or the account that controls both.
Choose the computer first. Then move the password away from the person who needs the block.

How to block porn on a computer, not one browser
SafeSearch removes most explicit results from Google Search. Turn it on, but know its boundary.
SafeSearch does not stop a direct address. Chrome Safe Browsing protects against malware and phishing, not adult content.
A browser extension can stop direct addresses, but it protects only that browser. Another profile, another browser or the Extensions page can reopen the route.
That is why the computer-wide layer comes next.
Use the strongest built-in option
On Windows
Use a filtered DNS service on the Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection (DNS is the layer that turns a web address into a server, underneath the browser and apps).
It covers Edge, Chrome, Firefox and private windows together. Microsoft Family Safety can supervise a child, but Microsoft says its web filter works only in Edge.

On Mac
Open System Settings, then Screen Time, Content & Privacy, and App Store, Media, Web, & Games. Under Web Content, choose Limit Adult Websites.
Apple also lets you add domains to a restricted list. The useful part is not the list. It is a Screen Time passcode you do not know.
On Chromebook
Family Link can set a supervised child's Chrome access to Try to block explicit sites or the stronger Only allow approved sites.
Google says no filter is perfect. Also close Guest mode and new-user sign-in, or the child can leave the supervised account.
For an adult blocking himself, put the filter on the Wi-Fi or another network layer. An ordinary adult Google account owns its own Chrome controls.
Build three layers, then test them
- Filter discovery. Lock SafeSearch so an image search is not the first doorway.
- Filter direct access. Use Screen Time, Family Link or filtered DNS across the computer.
- Move the key. Work from a non-admin account or let someone else keep the control password.
Test a direct adult domain, a private window and a second browser. Then connect through a phone hotspot. That last test tells you whether your filter lives on the computer or only on home Wi-Fi.
Delete saved files too. No network filter can block something already on the drive.
What no computer filter can see
DNS and family filters work well on known adult domains. They cannot reliably remove explicit posts from a mixed platform without blocking the entire platform.
If Reddit, X, Discord or another app is the actual route, block or remove the app and domain. Do not make a website filter solve a feed problem.
A Wi-Fi-level porn block adds a useful second layer across every device at home. It will not follow a laptop onto another network, so keep the computer layer too.
Common questions
Will a browser extension block porn on the whole computer?
No. It normally covers one browser profile. A system or network filter covers other browsers too.
Does Incognito mode bypass a computer-wide block?
Not normally. Private browsing changes local history and cookies. It does not bypass Screen Time, Family Link or the computer's DNS route.
Can I make the block permanent?
Not while you keep every administrator and recovery credential. You can make removal require another account, another person or enough time for the urge to pass.
Stop letting the browser hold the only key
Install an extension if it helps. Just do not mistake it for the wall.
Put the real filter on the computer, work without the admin password and test the route before the next bad night gets a vote.
