Porn Blocker Extension: What It Cannot Cover
A browser extension can create a pause. It cannot hold the whole commitment.
A porn blocker extension can stop a page in one browser.
It cannot stop the person who installed it from turning it off.
Use an extension for friction. Do not mistake it for a complete quitting system.
What a porn blocker extension does well
A good extension can block known adult domains, hide explicit search results, or interrupt the page long enough for the urge to cool.
That pause is useful. Install one in every browser you actually use, then test a direct domain instead of trusting the setup screen.
In Chrome, also open the extension details and turn on Allow in Incognito. Google says extensions must be enabled there individually.
The three holes to test
Turn it off. Chrome lets the user disable or remove an extension from Manage Extensions. If you control that switch, your worst moment controls it too.
Open another browser. A Chrome extension does nothing inside Safari, Firefox, an app, or the browser on your phone.
Leave the computer. A perfect desktop setup cannot cover the phone beside your bed.
Add accountability outside the browser
X Reset uses a DNS profile on each device instead of a browser extension. It detects visits to known porn sites across the browsers on that device and links a detected relapse day to the pact charge you chose.
X Reset does not block the page. The extension creates the pause; X Reset gives the decision a real consequence. A clean day costs $0. A relapse is charged once for that day, not once per visit.
The stronger setup is simple:
- Use the extension to stop the first click.
- Install X Reset on every device that can become the second route.
- Keep the phone out of the room where you usually relapse.
- Let one trusted person know the rule.
No layer is magic. Together, they change more than a browser setting: they change what happens after the urge starts bargaining.
